Bears Finally beat Packers in Chicago

In a game that featured quaterback Brett Farve who has not lost in Chicago since 1993, the Bears defense finally after all these years got some redemption. In a 19-7 fashion the Bears displayed their brand of football dominate defense and offense that tries...Well not to screw it up for the D. The Bears picked off Brett "overrated" Farve two times, one at the end of the half setting up a bears FG. The second a interception by cornerback Nathan Vasher who ran 45 yards the other way clinching the win for the Bears. He was also sacked twice and hit hard all game by the ferocious Bears D causing two fumbles, one lost. On offense Thomas Jones rushed for 93 yards on 19 carries to reach the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his six-year NFL career. But rookie quarterback Kyle Orton struggled, completing just 6 of 17 passes for 68 yards with three sacks, one interception and a 23.7 quarterback rating. "Offensively, we need to improve on some things," head coach Lovie Smith said. "The quarterback position, we need to play better at it." Chicago won despite getting out gained 358-188, converting 0 of 10 third-down opportunities and failing to score an offensive touchdown. The win maintained a 2 game lead in the NFC North over the surging Minnesota Vikings. Da Bears travel to the Steel City next week to try and extend their winning streak to a franchise record 9 straight.

Bears extend win streak to seven in Tampa

The Bears' #1 ranked defense dominated the Buccaneers throughout most of Sunday's game, but needed a little luck before team secured it's seventh straight victory. Tampa kicker Matt Bryant pushed a 29-yard field goal attempt wide right with 2:47 remaining in the game, allowing Chicago to escape with a 13-10 win at Raymond James Stadium. Head Coach Lovie Smith said this about his defense and how his team has been winning games; "How far can it carry us? Hopefully all the way.... You know if you don't let a team score, you have a heck of a chance of winning, I know that's simple, but that's kind of how it is. We play good defense, we run the football and we try not to make a lot of mistakes. That's a pretty good formula for success." I would have to agree, during this win streak the Chicago Defense as let up only 5 touchdowns in 7 weeks of football. The win also let the surging Bears (8-3) maintained their two-game lead atop the NFC North over the Minnesota Vikings (6-5), who defeated the Cleveland Browns 24-12 Sunday at the Metrodome. Next up is the hated Packers who have been struggling lately with only 2 wins this season, no time to feel sorry for em.....GO BEARS!!!

Bears Win Battle of First Place Teams

The Chicago Bears dominated the Carolina Panthers 13-3 in the must anticipated match up of first place teams. The surging Bears established themselves as one of the nap's top playoff contenders, with this their sixth straight win improving their record to 7-3 overall. The sellout crowd watched the Number 1 defense in the league hold an opponent without a touchdown for the fifth time this season and the fourth time in the last six games. The loss snapped Carolina's six-game winning streak and gave the Bears the playoff tiebreaker over the Panthers (7-3) should the teams finish with the same record. One week after producing the longest play in NFL history with a 108-yard touchdown return of a missed field goal, Nathan Vasher wasted little time before making an impact Sunday. The second-year cornerback returned two interceptions deep into Carolina territory in the first quarter, setting up a touchdown and field goal as the Bears jumped to a quick 10-0 lead. Along with Vasher, an inspired defensive line helped produced the win, registering eight sacks. Adewale Ogunleye equaled a career high with three sacks, Alex Brown added a season-high two and Alfonso Boone, Michael Haynes and Tommie Harris each had one apiece. The lone Bears touchdown was scored by Mushin Muhammad a former Panther who holds, all of the receiving records. Next week Da Bears travel to Tampa Bay to play another NFC south team the Buccaneers.

Bears Win Despite Windy Weather

Overcoming a strong gusty wind, costly turnovers and a key injury, the Bears rallied to beat the San Francisco 49ers Sunday behind a stifling defense, their third-string running back and a play you had to see to believe. Nathan Vasher set a new NFL record when he returned a missed field goal 108 yards for a score as time ran out in the first half. Give the Bears a 7-3 lead at the half, and propelling them to a 17-9 win. "We had to get a big play," Vasher said. "I was just lucky that my guys threw some great blocks and I took it in. I didn't even know it was an NFL record, but it's a blessing all the same." In winning their fifth straight in the same season for just the second time since 1992, the Bears (6-3) maintained their two-game lead atop the NFC North over the Vikings (4-5) and Lions (4-5). Minnesota beat the New York Giants 24-21 and Detroit defeated Arizona 29-21. The wind was so bad that both teams only attempted 13 passes and the 49ers only completed 1 pass for 28 yards. When asked about the wind Kyle Orton said this, "It was ridiculous, but that's Chicago home-field advantage right there," an Iowa native who starred at Purdue. "It was bad. I played in a game last year at Northwestern that was close to it. But this was consistent the entire game. It was almost impossible to throw." On a sour note, rookie running back Cedric Benson sprained his knee when he was tackled awkwardly, and is expected to miss about a month. The Bears look forward to playing the top team in the NFC next week, the Carolina Panthers. GO BEARS!!

Gould Wins it with :06 left

Robbie Gould hit a 28 yard field goal which gave them a 20-17 victory over the Saints at LSU's Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. The win improved the Bears to 5-3 overall and gave the Bears their fourth straight victory. It also extended their lead in the NFC to two games over Minnesota and Detroit, both currently 3-5. The Bears didn't play like a first place team in the first half. The offense committed turnovers on three of its first five possessions and lost running back Thomas Jones to an injury. The defense, meanwhile, yielded 104 yards rushing after not allowing more than 95 yards for six straight games. But things changed in the second half. With Jones forced to exit late in the second quarter after re-injuring the bruised ribs he had sustained a week earlier in Detroit, backup running backs Cedric Benson and Adrian Peterson more than filled the void. Benson (14 carries for 79 yards) and Peterson (6-58) both had career-high 36-yard runs while combining to rush for 137 yards on 20 carries in the second half to power the offense. The defense although not as strong as usual still ranks number three in the league in total defense. The Bears look to continue their winning way against the San Francisco 49ers next win back in Chicago.

Bears Win An Overtime Thriller Against Division Foe

The Chicago Bears took a huge step Sunday towards the NFC north title, beating the Detroit Lions in overtime 19-13. Charles Tillman intercepted a ill-advised pass from Lions quarterback Jeff Garcia and raced 22 yards for the score. It was the first touchdown for Tillman this year, and it gave the resurgent Bears (4-3) their third straight victory after a 1-3 start and into sole possession of first place in the NFC North. The win always gave the Bears the huge tiebreaker over the Lions, since they beat them 38-6 earlier in the season. After the Bears were outgained 88-10 in the first quarter, rookie Kyle Orton passed for 176 yards in the second period alone-more yards than he had compiled in any of his previous six games-as Chicago scored on three straight possessions to take a 13-3 halftime lead. On, a negative note the Bears lost rookie wideout, Mark Bradley when he was tackled awarkdly and tore his ACL. The Bears look to improve upon there current three game winning streak next week against the Saints.

The Bears beat the Ravens in defensive struggle

Baltimore and the number two defense came to Chicago but were outplayed by the number three defense. The bears got a touchdown pass from Kyle Orton to fullback Marc Edwards in the first quarter, and that's all their defense would need. Chicago's defense shut down Baltimore's running game and star running back Jamal Lewis, with just 34 yards on 15 carries. The Chicago Bears are the only team in the NFL not to allow a rushing touchdown this year. With a matchup up of two strong defenses an unusual stat would be that of running back Thomas Jones, who ran the ball 22 times for 139 yards for the Bears. "I think they were getting tired," Jones said of a Ravens defense that entered the game ranked second in the NFL in total yards. The Bears defense also did not allow a TD for the second straight game and league the league in points allowed with 10.3 ahead of the Colts (11.0). Leaders on the defnesive side of the ball were Brina Urlacher, Tank Johnson, and Adewale Oguneyle. Next week the Bears take on the Lions for complete control of first place.

Bears Crush Another Division Opponent

The Chicago Bears beat the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, 28-3 pushing them back into first place in the weak NFC north division. Thomas Jones and Desmond Clark each scored two touchdowns and Chicago's defense held an opponent out of the end zone for the second time this season as the Bears whipped the Minnesota Vikings 28-3 before the delighted fans at Soldier Field. Running back Thomas Jones was listed as doubtful all week before making a game-time decision to play. He had 89 yards on 23 carries and scored on runs from 1 and 24 yards out. Brian Urlacher excelled on the other side of the ball registering 2 sacks and 9 tackles leading the team in both catergories. The defense played exceptionally well allowing only 1 field goal from ex-bear Paul Edinger. Edinger played 5 years with the Bears from 2000-2004, but on this day he was 1 for 3 missing one wide right and having one blocked from backup defensive tackle Alfonso Boone. The Vikings were coming off a bye week, in which there were rumors of a cruise gone bad with accusations of sexual misconduct with many players on the team. Browns Steal W From Bears

With three minutes and six seconds left to go in the fourth quarter, it looked like the Bears were going to win their second game of the season. Little did Chicago fans realize what was about to take place. Browns quarter back, Trent Dilfer threw a 38 yard TD pass, to take the lead over Chicago 13-10. Then on the second play of subsequence drive for the Bears, Rookie QB Kyle Orton fumbled and the Browns recovered. On the very next play Dilfer threw another TD thus putting the game out of reach just 38 seconds after is initial touchdown. The Bears fall to 1-3 and out of first place in the North division. The Bears were relaying on Thomas Jones for most of their offense throughout the game. He tacked up 137 yards before injury his knee midway through the fourth quarter. He will most likely miss next Sundays game versus the Vikings, a must win against a division foe. Rookie Robbie Gould, making his NFL debut in place of the injured Doug Brien, has now signed with the team long-term and Doug Brien has been released. Bears move into first on bye week

The Chicago Bears enjoyed a week 4 bye week and rested for their next game against the Cleveland Browns. While I watched the games on Sunday, I noticed that all three division foes took an L, thus pushing the Bears into first place. Detroit lost a heart breaker to TampaBay 17-13, Minnesota was rolled over 41-10 and Greenbay lost Monday night to the Carolina Panthers by three. This bye week gave rookie quaterback Kyle Orton, a chance to rest after throwing 5 pics against the Benglas last weekend. The Bears will be recharging their batteries in anticipation for the Browns. Head coach Lovie Smith said "We feel good about where we are right now and we're anxious to play our next game against a very good Cleveland team."

Bears routed by Bengals

The feeling of exuberance and cheer from the win over Detroit was quickly erased as the Cincinnati Bengals punished the Bears 24-7. Kyle Orton had by far his worst outing as a pro, throwing 5 interceptions, 4 in the first half and 0 TD's. A positive note on offense was Thomas Jones who rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. On the defensive side of the ball the bears played above average except for about three plays...All resulting in touchdowns to Chad Johnson(2) and Chris Henry(1). However the Bears must learn to play against a big play receiver like Chad Johnson, if they ever plan on competing for the Super bowl or even the division. As a NFL team you just cannot turn the ball over 6 times and expect to win a game especially when your facing a team with an explosive offense such as the Bengals. The Bears have a bye week this up coming weekend, a chance to regroup at great ready for the Cleveland Browns. Some side notes Chicago TE Desmond Clark left the game midway through the second quater with a neck strain...but he said it is not serious.

Bears roll over the Detroit pussy cats

The Chicago Bears simply outplayed the Detroit Lions in every aspect of the game Sunday winning 38-6 and improving their record to 1-1. The Bears scored on offense, defense, and special teams to humiliate their division foes. This win was amplified by the fact that the Vikings and the Packers lost, launching the Bears in to first place in the NFC central division standings. Although, way to ealry to start preparing for the parade through the streets of Chicago, it is impressive seeing the bears bounce back after the tough loss to the 'skins. Nathan Vasher the second year corner out of Texas had two picks and Brian Urlacher lead the team with 9 tackles and 2 sacks. On offense Thomas Jones is a player of the week canidate with 139 yards and 2 tds. As for my personal feelings Da bears have once again found away for me to get my hopes up for the rest of the 2005 NFL season. Next week the Bears have a tough game at home against the Cincy Bungals. Go Bears!!!

Bears lose defensive struggle

They forced three turnovers and did not permit a touchdown, but struggled mightly on offense only able to come up with 7 points, to fall 9-7 to the Washington Redskins. The Bears offense played well at times but untimely penalties and turnovers in crucial postions were the difference. Some postive notes on the game were defensive stand sin the red zone by the bears only allowing three field goals by kicker John Hall and forcing a fumble on quaterback Patrick Ramsey. The Bears offense also improved as the game wore on. The Chicago offense went three and out on their first 4 possesions and orton looked anything but a rookie much of the second half. Also on a postive note yours truly was in 10 feet of Jessica Simpson, who looks even hotter in person....anyway, next game is home against the Detroit Lions, a chance for the bears to redeem themsleves with a longtime division rivial.

Da Chicago Bears 2005 Season
The Chicago Bears' season kicks off sunday at 1:00 eastern time in Washington D.C. against the Redskins. Yours truly will be attendence watching my beloved Bears begin their march, towards a playoff year...hopefully. As always all bears fans have their hopes up again this year and are pysched for the season. With additions of players like Mushin Muhammaed and rookie Cedric Benson the bears offense should be better. The defense looks like the back bone of the team with pro bowl linebacker Brian Urlacher healthy and saftery Mike Brown off the IR. I'm looking forward to the season.
